Research Metrics
Research metrics are becoming ever more important in our world of research administration.
Research universities around the globe are experiencing increasing pressure to demonstrate the impact and value of research.  The traditional Key point indicators (KPIs) are no longer sufficient to demonstrate the impact of research, especially in terms of “return-on-investment“.  Governments are driving research universities to better demonstrate the impact of their investments using advanced tools, metrics and methodologies.  Large sums of research funding are allocated based on research performance as evidenced by research metrics.  Global ranking systems, e.g. ARWU, QS and THE, have already implemented various research impact (bibliometric) KPIs and used them to assess and compare global universities.
This presentation will explore the science and the art, but also the limits and weaknesses of research metrics, tools and scorecards.
